Bio

Egon Schiele was an Austrian artist. He was born on June 12, 1890 in the city of Tulln. At an early age, Schiele showed a remarkable talent for drawing and painting. In 1906 he entered the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Frustrated by the conservative and closed environment, which forced him to follow academic paths, he left the Academy and founded the Neukunstgruppe (New Art Group) together with some colleagues.

In 1907 he met the renowned painter Gustav Klimt. Klimt’s influence on Schiele’s work was profound, and he soon developed his own distinctive style characterized by its raw emotive power and provocative subject matter.

Schiele’s early career was marked by controversy, as his unconventional interpretations of the human form and his explicit exploration of sexuality challenged social norms.
