Vamp Iris Atma Ra. 20 years raising awareness!
For 20 years Vamp Iris Atma Ra has built her identities in performance, a stage art in which she has contextualized her work in relation to activism through different styles of fashion and social themes. The way she combines it with artistic research is one of her main qualities to provoke astonishment.
The main roots of Vamp Iris Atma Ra’s work in performance lie in identity. The multiple, complex, and hybrid forms we have as human beings, energy, and society to express identity.
“In the process of performance, I have drawn from different sources: social sciences, spiritual practices, and social experiences,” says Vamp Iris Atma Ra, who affirms that her work is not just performance but perfofaction, meaning: a blend of performance, fiction, and documentary facts.
CREATION
“I construct my performative identities in a way similar to how a writer sketches or writes on paper the essence and personality of each character. I write a life story, favorite color, fashion style, profession, religion, qualities, life drive, sources of suffering, virtue, or wickedness of each character,” the visual artist states.
Vamp Iris Atma Ra is related to the struggle we all have between chaos and order; she is a character that collides with people’s ideas. When they see her on the street in her bold outfit, she gives them a jolt, moving the common image they have in mind of how a woman should be.
LONG JOURNEY
“I have been constructing my performance identities for a long time. I have been a visual artist for 20 years, and it wasn’t until last year that I discovered my work seemed like a summary of the theological knowledge of the Seven Rays,” she explains.
“The qualities of the seventh ray that define Vamp are: Gratitude. Precision. Ordered beauty. Skill. Dignity. Attention to detail, to order. Military method. Splendor,” she comments.
Vamp Iris Atma Ra is a character characterized by the struggle we can all be familiar with: chaos and order.
However, more than a character or an identity, Vamp Iris Atma Ra has become a lifestyle for the visual artist that extends beyond the stages of her social activism.
