The heritage memory of art and culture is important because they are tangible expressions of collective memory and represent a way of understanding the world both for the individual who creates the work and the group to which they belong. Various organizations in Mexico are involved in conserving cultural memory: INAH, INBA, UNAM, and generally agencies related to artistic and intellectual work.

However, when it comes to visualizing one’s own logbook, history, or professional memory, many of us have not considered this aspect, and we find ourselves only with the simplest documents – Curriculum Vitae – a document that practically records professional experience and academic training for work or study purposes. Since I am not professionally dedicated to the arts but rather to academic work, I believe that the dissemination of my cultural creations would be centered in academic spaces through conferences, courses, or workshops.

A family story related to life memories is as follows: after the death of my father -Javier Martínez Saucedo-, while cleaning, I found a series of letters, rough drafts, and tapes of programs he made when he belonged to the W, in the 50s, the early days of that broadcaster. We took the tapes to the National Sound Archive, and they are in the process of digitization. They asked us if we would cede them or remain as collectors. My sister and I chose the latter option as it allows us to keep the original material and the archive retains a digital copy.

We can remember the relationship that heritage research has with the development of art texts, as research helps clarify the artist’s motivations when creating their work, understanding the context and their influences which allows for extracting general criteria for validation and aesthetic appreciation. Heritage documentation also plays an important role in cultural promotion and dissemination as research brings the artist’s work closer to the general public, facilitating identification not only with their works but also with the artist themselves, which generates empathy, interest in the work and art in general, resulting in the development of aesthetic sensitivity.
