When we say “Jesus,” we ask God for everything we need with the confidence of being heard. Each time we say “Jesus,” we glorify God with infinite joy and glory because we offer Him the merits of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ. By saying “Jesus,” we offer God the Masses said in the world for our intentions. Saying “Jesus” is an act of love, through which we offer God the infinite love of Jesus. The Holy Name of Jesus saves us from countless evils and rescues us from temptations. The Divine Name of Jesus gradually fills our souls with peace and joy.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Col. 3:17
We must understand the relevance of the Name of Jesus. We should get into the habit of saying it devoutly and frequently. Use it as an invocation, a prayer, a mantra, and a source of comfort and joy. By committing everything we do in words or actions in the Name of Jesus, our actions in the world become acts of merit and love, and a bridge to receive divine grace.
“At the Name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10-11.
The name of Jesus is, in itself, a prayer of invocation and thanksgiving. The Hebrew word Yeshua (Jesus) means “God saves.” It includes the verb (ישע Ysa) “to save/help/deliver.” In the Old Testament, Jesus “Yēšūa” is mentioned about 30 times, while the complete form Yehōšūaʿ appears nearly 100 times. This name reached Spanish through its Aramaic variant, Yēšūa (ישוע), via Greek Iēsoûs (Ιησούς) and Latin Iesus (Iesvs).
And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.
Matthew 1:21
The living tradition of the “prayer of the Name” dates back to the early centuries. The constant repetition of the Name of Jesus has endured throughout history.
Lord Jesus, Son of the living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Prayer of hesychia, of the peace of the heart.
It is in the Name of Jesus that Catholics are baptized; it is in His Name that the mysteries are celebrated. In Revelation, it is noted that the saved carry “the name of their God” on their foreheads.
And I looked, and behold, the Lamb stood on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred forty-four thousand, having His Father’s name written on their foreheads.
Revelation 14:1
Jesus is the Name above all names. Jesus means God made man. When we say Jesus, we recognize the infinite love and merits of Jesus Christ, and we honor the presence of the loving Father God in Him. God, the Infinite, the Immense, Eternal, Almighty Creator, who fills Heaven with His Majesty and Greatness, becomes a little child to be one of us and win our love. God did all this not for all men in general, but for each one of us, especially. By saying Jesus, we give thanks and venerate this stupendous act of love. Therefore, it is advisable to say “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,” every day, to receive His marvelous grace.
Jesus, I love You, I adore You in all the consecrated Hosts in the world, and I thank You with all my heart for remaining in all the altars of the world out of love for us. Thank You, Jesus.
God comes to each of us as a response to our frequent call. He enters into each of us as fully and completely as He is in Heaven. He comes with infinite love for us. He not only enters our mouths through the words we repeat in the Holy Name of Jesus, but also dwells in our hearts, floods our souls, uniting with our souls so intimately that He becomes one with us. His infinite love wraps around us when we call upon Him every day, with the frequency with which we practice devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus.
