Wikimedia Editathon and Creative Awareness Workshop. Salon de la Plástica Mexicana, INBA

Iris Atma (visual artist and art critic) and Leigh Thelmadatter (Regional Ambassador of Wikimedia in Mexico) extend the invitation to participate in two activities:

  • Mexican Art Editing Marathon for Wikimedia: organized in conjunction with Wikimedia and the Salon de la Plástica Mexicana del INBA, which will be held tomorrow, Saturday 29, from 12 PM to 6 PM at the Salon de la Plástica, Colima 196, colonia Roma.
  • Creative Awareness Workshop: on Saturdays, October 6, 13, 20, and 27, from 3 PM to 8 PM at the Salon de la Plástica in colonia Roma.

    – Creative Awareness: Theoretical Framework and Methodology

The workshop facilitates students’ approach to art from objective and rational knowledge. It also encourages subjective and intuitive understanding.

The theoretical cultural framework is based on the disciplines of Criticism, History, Aesthetics, Theology, Philosophy, and Psychology.

These events are aimed at the general public to invite collaboration in Wikimedia editing. Everyone is welcome. They will teach how to be a Wikimedia volunteer. Participants will work on documenting the life and work of the artists who are members of the Salon de la Plástica Mexicana. Registrations are open, and entry is free.

The Wikimedia Foundation develops various projects: Wiktionary, Wikipedia, Wikiquote, Wikibooks, Wikisource, etc. All with a Creative Commons license. This means that the content can be freely used, edited, copied, and distributed.

Leigh Thelmadatter leads a project with the Salon de la Plástica Mexicana. The project focuses on documenting the lives and works of its members. This represents an effort for documentation and dissemination of Mexican Art on a contemporary international platform like the Internet.

Iris Atma collaborates in the project by giving advice and workshops on the relationship between Art, Multimedia, and Art Criticism. In August-September, they held a workshop on Art and Multimedia. This was to help students understand the potential offered by the web. They explored how Wikimedia can be used for the promotion of art.
