When your body hurts it can be a result of a somatic flashback associated with CPTSD, or other trauma issues. Symptoms could be:

  1. Nausea or other digestive problems.
  2. Hearth palpitations or tremors (shaking).
  3. Chronic fatigue.
  4. Extreme pain with no obvious physical cause. Commonly with lower back, hips, around eyes & migraines.
  5. Insomnia or other sleep disturbances.

Trauma is not just an event that took place sometime in the past, it is also the imprint left by that experience on mind, brain and body. Painful experiences, are stored as body memories. That’s why when you feel a smell, hear a voice or see a person that reminds you of a painful moment, your tommy aches.

If you experience somatic flashbacks, reassure yourself that you are in the present, and that memory is not happening now. You can try a) breathing, b) grounding techniques, c) move, shake it off, dance, d) make a short meditation.
