“Bugs in dreams tend to symbolize something that has been ‘bugging’ you in real life,” Lauri Loewenberg
Entering the territory of dreams is a combination of crossing mists to experience different realities, or being the spectator of a film in which you star. I have had arachnid nightmares, then, I question myself:
—Do I deserve love, freedom, and happiness? Why are my dreams usually about combat, anguish, packing in a hurry to escape, hiding in the shadows to enter the places I want, or finding myself in immense and uncomfortable places where I don’t know how to get out? What magic words could give me relief or the key to get out of all these negative scenarios, and dissolve them into light?
What does it mean to dream of myself among arachnids?
These beings constitute a class, within the Chelicerates subphylum, that includes spiders, scorpions, murgaños, ticks, mites, and camel spiders.
Grandma Spider and Black Stilettos
In one of the dreams I entered a building that seemed abandoned, old, and dilapidated, however, I knew there were my things that I wanted to rescue. On the way, I found several insects, which fortunately did not attack me. Then I saw a pair of black stiletto sneakers. Inside one of these, there was a T-shirt with something printed on it, I don’t know if it was a couple or a celebrity, I put it on, and I also put on my heels. Then I realized that the white t-shirt with gray printing covered me up to my hips, and underneath I was wearing transparent black stockings and heels. Something made me turn to the central area of the building, then, a giant spider, plumper than Louise Bourgeois’s, was looking at me with its red, bulging eyes and pointy legs. Just a few meters and old columns separated me from the huge insect. Then I woke up.
Spider Dreams Meaning
The next morning I looked for some meanings of dreams about spiders. We all know how terrifying it is to see a six-legged creature with multiple eyes and pincers. Those spider dreams could also be telling us that we are feeling trapped and that there’s something big and important to deal with in real life.
“Spiders, in particular, often point to deceit, a web of lies, or a sense of feeling trapped, since the web is created to trap the spider’s prey,” Hoda Kotb and Kelly Pickler
On a Freudian level spider embodies woman. She is the creative force, weaving the designs of life and fate. Spider is associated with words and communication. Spider bestows the power to work magic over people and things. By weaving, it gains a certain element of control; once the prey is wrapped up, this control is complete. Some find the eight legs and body shape in the form of an eight significant; numerology equates spider with the symbol for infinity, the lemniscate. Spider is the totality of the life cycle – the beginning and end. The medicine of spider should be called upon when one feels trapped. If a web is destroyed, spider recycles it and weaves it anew. So spider allows the individual to assimilate negative experiences and use them for gain.
Spider’s appearance can symbolize one’s fear. When she arrives, it is time to confront one’s phobias. Suppressing them without confronting them means they are sure to surface later. Spider allows one to contact one’s deepest wisdom and nurtures a sense of connection and integration at all levels. Her web symbolizes the tying together of loose ideas into a tidy package.
The context, and details, are relevant:
- Spiders all over your body can indicate there is something about your body that is bothering you.
- If the spider is oversized, it’s the dream’s way of emphasizing the symbol, of emphasizing that this spider-like energy is really big in your life at the moment, whether you already know this or whether you’ve been trying to deny it.
- A spider web would represent something you need to free yourself of before it gets to the point where it will fully consume you.
- Killing a spider can mean you have successfully exterminated a situation that had been bugging you or you put an end to a web of lies.
Also, in the spiritual world, arachnids have different meanings. The spider has been a symbol of Life (Creation, wisdom, patience, fertility, and sex) due to its ability to construct orbicular webs from itself, so, they can mean new projects that we have in mind. But it also means Death (War and destruction) due to its predatory capacity and the toxicity of its venom, so they may be related to problems in our everyday life.
- Spiders can symbolize creative capacity, aggressiveness, clean and renewed energies, good luck, and wisdom. They can also represent life (creation, fertility, and sex) and death (war and destruction). In dreams, spiders can be related to new projects or personal problems.
- Small spiders symbolize small progress
- Black spiders in dreams can announce problems of various kinds, such as relationships, work, or personal problems. It doesn’t mean that anything bad is going to happen, but it does mean that the subconscious is sending a message to reflect and think things through calmly before making decisions.
- Spiderwebs, meanwhile, can represent the daily weaving process, spiritual advancement, and personal growth. They are also associated with dream catchers, which help keep pleasant dreams and good ideas.
Some questions to ponder when spider appears:
- Are you weaving your dreams into reality?
- Are you moving toward a central goal or are you scattered and going in multiple directions?
- Are you becoming too involved and or self-absorbed?
- Are you focusing on others’ accomplishments and not on your own?
- Do you need to write or draw and are not following through?
- Are you developing resentment because of it – for yourself or for them?
Remember: Spiders are timid, delicate, agile and much of their creative energy is expended in the dark. But when the sun hits the fruits of spider labor, they glisten with intricate beauty.
Spiders Mythology
From Spider Mother to Scorpio demon, arachnids appear in Mythology. The two most important arthropods in mythology are the scorpion and the spider. The arthropod with the most intense presence in the set of primitive human beliefs is the spider. Throughout five continents and a period spanning at least 5,000 years, the spider has been linked to important divinities in which both creative and destructive powers reside at the same time.
Arachne
In Book Six of his epic poem Metamorphoses, Ovid recounts how the talented mortal Arachne challenged the goddess Athena to a weaving contest. When Athena could find no flaws in the tapestry Arachne had woven for the contest, the goddess became enraged and beat the girl with her shuttle. After Arachne hanged herself out of shame, she was transformed into a spider. The myth both provided an etiology of spiders’ web-spinning abilities and was a cautionary tale about hubris.
Great Goddess of Teotihuacan
The Great Goddess is thought to have been a goddess of the underworld, darkness, the earth, water, war, and possibly even creation itself. To the ancient civilizations of Mesoamerica, the jaguar, the owl, and especially the spider were considered creatures of darkness, often found in caves and during the night.
Spider Grandmother
Spider Grandmother (Hopi Kokyangwuti, Navajo Na’ashjé’ii Asdzáá) is an important figure in the mythology, oral traditions, and folklore of many Native American cultures, especially in the Southwestern United States. According to tradition, she is the creator of the world, and responsible for the stars in the sky. She took a red one that she had spun and tied it with dew. He then threw it into the sky, and the dew became the stars.
She can take the shape of an old, or timeless woman or the shape of a common spider in many Hopi stories. When she is in her spider shape, she lives underground in a hole that is like a Kiva. When she is called upon, she will help people in many ways, such as giving advice or providing medicinal cures. “Spider Grandmother” is seen as a leader, a wise individual who represents good things.
Iktomi
In Lakota mythology, spider is both feared and revered. On one side – fear – the trickster is transformed from one-time god of wisdom. On the other side – reverence – Iktomi is credited with giving all creatures their names, shapes, personality and identity. Since he ran out of names before naming himself, he ended up as spider.
Dakota and Lakota decoration often use the symbol of spider or spider’s web. It is believed that any warrior adorned with spider symbol is invincible to arrows and bullets. Just as the arrow or bullet can pass through a spider’s web, leaving it relatively intact, it was believed that the projectile would pass through the brave warrior and leave him unharmed. Also, since the spider’s web is difficult to see unless it is wet, the wearer of spider symbol is given a type of invisibility.
Goddess of writing
In southwestern America, spider was the creator goddess and weaving was an honored art. Spider was also credited with giving humanity the first alphabet; writing was equated with feminine wisdom.
Anansi
is an Akan folktale character associated with stories, wisdom, knowledge, and trickery, most commonly depicted as a spider, in Akan folklore. Taking the role of a trickster, he is also one of the most important characters of West African, African American, and West Indian folklore. Anansi is best known for his ability to outsmart and triumph over more powerful opponents through his use of cunning, creativity, and wit. Despite taking on a trickster role, Anansi often takes center stage in stories and is commonly portrayed as both the protagonist and antagonist.

Scorpio Dream Meaning
Scorpions are symbols of protection, transformation, independence, solitude, and intelligence. But scorpions are a symbol of death and rebirth, a symbol of power, and also represent lust, sex, and fertility. Some people believe that scorpions are good luck. Others think of the sighting as a sign to flush out the old and bring in the new.
Dreams of scorpions may represent stress or a feeling of danger in your waking life, and suggest that it’s time to relax or slow down. Scorpion dreams might also indicate rocky interpersonal relationships, suggesting that it’s time to practice your communication and surround yourself with friends.
Scorpio Mythology
Scorpios have an alluring persona that can easily draw others in. Governed by Pluto, the planet of transformation, they demonstrate remarkable resilience and rise again after each setback like the phoenix.
The Scorpio is directly related to the goddess Inanna, a creative deity, and mother of the gods.
Arachnids as Spirit Animals
If you are attracted by the Scorpio as Totem Animal:
Scorpions are strongly connected to this zodiac sign. Scorpions symbolize strength, protection, and the ability to withstand harsh environments. Similarly, Scorpios are thought to be determined and resilient individuals who can overcome obstacles with skill.
If you are attracted by the Spider as a Totem Animal:
A Scorpio’s calculated side is represented by the spider. Like a spider builds webs to catch its prey, Scorpios are known to thoughtfully plan and strategize to reach their goals. Spiders also symbolize creativity and fertility.
If you desire to connect with your spirit animal by incorporating it into your life:
- Adopt your spirit animal as a pet if possible, such as if it’s a snake or spider. If your spirit animal is mythical or you wouldn’t enjoy it domesticated because the nature of this animal is better appreciated in liberty, bring them into your home with artwork, animal figurines, or jewelry.
- If you have a necklace or painting depicting your spirit animal, speak to it as if you are talking to a friend. This may feel strange at first but it will become more natural and help you bond in time.
- Keep a spirit animal journal or meditate to reflect on your dreams, thoughts, and feelings as you interact with your animal.
- Develop a daily ritual to connect with your spirit animal by making an altar, wearing their symbol, or expressing your gratitude toward them.
